Hi Everyone!

It’s with great pleasure that I write you these words to share my enthusiasm about the 31st Montreal National Home Show. The truth is I’ve always been fascinated with home renovation and decorating, which explains why I’ve done more than my share of moving in the past 10 years—not by obligation, but out of sheer pleasure. Condo on the Plateau, house on the shores of Laval, chalet in the Eastern Townships that we renovated from top to bottom… And now I’m right back at it with a major renovation of our new home that’s half-way to completion! Personally, what I love most is to introduce people to all the latest innovations and gadgets and show how they can be used in our homes. I recognize that I still have much to learn, and that’s what the National Home Show, with its many experts, is there for. This event is—for those of you like me who never have enough time—a unique opportunity to learn the full range of what’s available on the market in a small amount of time, all under one roof!

When it comes to renovations and decorating, there’s one thing I insist on: it has to be simple and my home must be inviting and comfortable. If we add to this, eco-friendly features and a few fun gadgets, I’m simply in heaven!

I can’t wait to see you at the Show and discover all that’s new for 2010 so I can share it with the whole of Quebec!

On behalf of the National Home Show and their, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. May joy and love fill your hearth.

Sincerely,

Jean Airoldi

Presented in premiere at the National Home Show, discover the Concept PolygHome.

A bioclimatic home oriented towards nature and natural light and comprising a host of state-of-the-art features.

Concept PolygHome is a novel construction concept, in which its building components—made from metals, wood, energy-efficient glass, thermoplastics, rigid insulation and concrete—are completely prefabricated. Designed using the latest in innovative technologies, this house offers a host of features highly sought after by those who care about their environment.

Owing to its bioclimatic architecture, Concept PolygHome harmoniously blends comfort with energy savings. The building’s livable volume is optimized to capture the most sunlight possible. As such, those who live in a Concept PolygHome benefit from a superior quality of life in a healthy habitat.

Without inundating you with all the technical and technological details of how it works, in essence a PolygHome enables you to obtain up to 50% more natural light and better views than a building of the same size. The views of the outside—from anywhere inside a PolygHome—far exceed any possible in a traditional construction.

The Concept PolygHome’s hybrid structure is composed of partially recycled steel and engineered wood manufactured from recovered tree tops. For a building of the same dimensions, the erection of a PolygHome generate 50% less greenhouse gases, due in large part to the reduction in need for heavy excavation, transport and building equipment.

To visit this house, come to the Montreal National Home Show from March 19 to 28, 2010, at Place Bonaventure.

Magazine, Les Idées de ma maison
Spacer

It’s once again that time of year to plan and organize… leaf through, sift through, search, shop, cook, and receive.

For this year’s Christmas decorations, “Les Idées de ma Maison” are calling on your artistic flare and imagination to create ornaments and gift-wrap that are 100% homemade!

If you kept your last year’s Christmas cards and gift tags (if not, remember to do so this year) you can transform them into Christmas decorations. Cover up the writing with coloured card stock or images cut from magazines. Then use the cards to create garlands or ornaments to suspend in the tree. Lean towards iridescent colours; the lighting of the tree will make them shimmer even more.

Need boxes? Look no further than your cereal boxes! They can be easily shaped to fit the gift that needs to be wrapped…with wrapping paper made of your own hands, naturally! For a sensational effect, take newspaper and coat it with acrylic paint in various colours.

Beans, nuts, casserole dishes and fruit make superb table decorations. Combine them with a few gold or silver accents for an instant touch of glamour. To embellish plates and glassware, all you have to do is paint them. Use, for example, Pebeo paints for porcelain or glass and omit the baking step—unless you want your artwork to become permanent!

Finally, favour electronic cards but personalize them! For instance, scan your children’s drawings and attach a photo of your entire clan.

Happy Holidays!

Be sure to buy the December issue of Les Idées de ma maison magazine, in stands now.

Green Pavilion
Maison Idékit Spacer

The 2010 National Home Show reaffirms its green commitment by presenting the 3500 square-foot Green Pavilion, at the centre of which will be erected an IdeKit Home.

This year, the Show is partnering with the consulting firm Takt-etik to best meet consumer demand for environmentally sound home living. To this end, this new 3500 sq. ft. space will provide visitors with all the information they need to allow them to make a tangible gesture. We will present exhibitors offering environmentally respectful products that are made in Quebec from recycled materials, environmentally-friendly construction and renovation services, and energy-efficient products and services. This space will also be devoted to promoting the management of residual materials from the perspective of reducing at the source: re-using, recycling, reclaiming refuse and applying the principles of environmentally responsible consumption. What’s more, in collaboration with Idekit Home, we will be showcasing, an avant-garde, eco-friendly home built from end-of-life shipping containers.

All this and much more at the Montreal National Home Show, on from March 19 to 28, 2010, at Place Bonaventure.
